Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati School of Medicine Dr. Gittelman is one of the nation’s leading authorities on injury prevention. He is an emergency room physician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center – the third busiest children’s hospital emergency department nationally – in addition to serving on the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Injury and Poison Prevention. He also serves as the Co-Director for the injury Free Coalition for Kids® in Greater Cincinnati (IFCK). He is involved in resident education on injury prevention, in particular relating to sports safety, firearm safety, playground safety, drowning prevention, and toy safety. His work in mobilizing high-risk communities, using the IFCK model, to reduce pediatric injuries has been well recognized within the medical field.

Valadez-McStay is a tireless advocate for childhood injury prevention. She is the Director of
Government and Community Relations at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, overseeing the hospital’s Center for Childhood Injury Prevention. Prior to her employ with the hospital, she
worked on the Texas House of Representatives’ Public Health Committee on legislation to improve access to healthcare for children. She is board chair of the Healthy Families Initiative – a non-profit organization committed to the prevention of abuse and neglect of children – in addition to serving on numerous statewide and local coalitions. Valadez-McStay is a member of the Joint City County Commission on Children in Texas.

Dr. Daniels is a veteran clinical nurse specialist at Clarian Health Partners – Riley Hospital for
Children and a well-respected faculty member at Indiana University School of Nursing, where she completed her doctoral work in injury prevention and public policy. Her clinical expertise includes pediatric trauma, critical care and neurotrauma in addition to community health. Dr. Daniels’ commitment to community enrichment led to her designing and implementing injury prevention programs for elementary schools throughout the Indianapolis area and to her current role with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids® – where she works with community leaders to reduce the incidence and severity of childhood injury through outreach, education and environmental changes.

Ahner is a seasoned child safety advocate, working in the pediatric emergency center at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. During her tenure with the hospital, Ahner developed a program offering injury prevention and educational resources for families visiting the emergency room and served as the hospital spokesperson on injury prevention. In addition, she spearheaded the hospital’s Shaken Baby Syndrome educational campaign and is a certified child passenger safety technician.
