New York Cab Health Fair
On Saturday, April 2nd the Get on Board with Child Safety campaign
was officially launched with a Cab Health Fair at Morgan Stanley
Children’s
Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian. Beginning at 10 a.m., 300 booster seats donated
by Dorel Juvenile Group USA’s Safety 1st brand were distributed to
the Livery Cab drivers who service the Washington Heights, Inwood and Harlem
neighborhoods. Drivers were also educated on proper booster seat installation
and given a Get on Board with Child Safety magnet so that their vehicle could be identified
for “Kid-Friendly” travel. Those who attended the fair received information
on the new booster seat law that went into effect on March 27, 2005 – requiring
all children under the age of seven to ride in a belt-positioning booster while
traveling in a private vehicle in the state of New York. Many cab drivers took
part in the free blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, vision and HIV screenings
as well as open enrollment in a health insurance plan. The Fair took
health education one step further by providing medical attention to the attendees
as a thank you for servicing the community every day.
