Riley’s Safety Store
On May 5, 2005 Riley Hospital for Children opened the country’s first
ever Safety Store to provide low-cost injury prevention products and safety
information for the families of all children, including children with disabilities
or special health care needs. Bike helmets, smoke detectors, cabinet locks,
outlet covers and carbon monoxide detectors are among the products that are
available to families statewide for the first time in a children’s
hospital setting.
To further support this mission, Riley Hospital for Children hosted the
launch of the comprehensive Get On Board with Child Safety injury
prevention campaign in Indiana. To kick off the grand opening of the
Safety Store and the Get on Board with Child Safety campaign, car
seats were distributed to Riley patients and their siblings free of charge
from noon to 4 pm following the press conference. The car seat donation will
continue to occur on a weekly basis and is made possible through support
from Dorel Juvenile Group USA.
