Hospitals

Our mission: We believe all children have unique needs and should grow up without illness or injury. With the support of the community and through our spirit of inquiry, we will prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease.
Consistently ranked as one of the best children's hospitals in the country by U.S News & World Report and Child magazines, Seattle Children's serves as the pediatric referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.
Founded in 1907, Seattle Children's provides excellent patient care with compassion and respect, and conducts cutting-edge pediatric research. Seattle Children’s philosophy of family-centered care focuses on treating the whole child, recognizing that families are invaluable partners in providing the best care. Seattle Children’s remains an independent, free-standing children’s hospital, and serves as the primary teaching, clinical and research site for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Advocacy and Community Outreach
Through our advocacy and health education programs, we work to prevent disease and injury before they occur. In partnership with other organizations, we draw on our unique experience in seeking to improve the health and safety of children in the region. Our advocacy efforts fall into three main categories:
- Achieving access to quality care for all children
- Promoting safety and health child development
- Meeting the health care needs of children with chronic health care needs
The hospital works in partnership and collaboration with a number of other public and private organizations, around health promotion, injury prevention, and safety issues.
Some of our community partners are the Washington State Department of Health, Injury Free Coalition for Kids, Safe Kids Worldwide, Washington Traffic Safety Commission, Cascade Bicycle Club, Talaris Institute, Seattle Mariners, State Farm Insurance, Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center, American Heart Association and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
